VISION & REFLECTION

The BTEC National program has been a wonderful learning experience for me; the experience is usually an Endeavour one approaches with caution.  So, I was somewhat hesitant at first, but the teachers have been great, Glenn Avotins, has been with us through thick and thin, through the ups and downs of hardware, software and everything in between.  I have to admit, this has been the best educational experience I have been through.  The type of collaborative learning environment that we are in has just been very nurturing and an eye-opening journey for me.  I am keen to make the most of every opportunity and I know I have the capabilities to excel within a university environment and the enthusiasm to make the most of my potential.

TECHNOLOGY GROWTH

My interest in technology began 2 years ago when I started the BTEC National course.  I was already very familiar with operating systems such as windows, word processing, spreadsheets and databases since my involvement with the Edexcel Diploma, I have learned even more.  I have improved and refilled my techniques in all of the areas I was already familiar with.  I am also now proficient in creating Websites (!) including editing and adapting PHP code and CSS. Experience with alternate platforms (Mac and Linux), design and construction of pc’s and networks have provided an in depth understanding of the basis of Information Communication Technology with hardware and networking as well.

My thoughts on how technology affects the world have also changed.  I realize learning is never complete, and technology is constantly changing and developing at a rate that is hard to keep up with.  Computers increasingly are portable yet faster; software applications being constantly are updated with new technology arriving continuously.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS

My educational background has furnished me with time management and organisational skills which were critical to planning and submitting my work within deadlines. My goals for the future are to extend my knowledge within IT and Web development at a degree level before deciding on the most enjoyable and financial suitable market sector to enter for the future success.

Work Experience

Odeon Cinema                                                       Dec 2007-February 2008
Job role: Team member (Permanent contract)Main duties and responsibilities include the following,

  • Cleaning cinema screens
  • Collecting tickets off customer’s and directing them to their screen
  • Working on a tills
  • Dealing with customer complaints
  • Taking all black bags to the compacter
  • Food handling

Next                                                                    December 2006-January 2007

Responsibilities included the following;

  • Making sure the queue was moving properly and apologizing for any delay
  • Taking stock from the stock room onto shelves
  • Achieving the task that was given by manger
  • Showing excellent customer service skills by smiling towards customers and answering any questions that needed answering.
  • Replacing any products which was in the wrong location back to the correct location
  • Making sure shelves looked presentable
Shoe World                                                         June 2004- July 2004
